About Impact Brussels
Very often ineffective communications practices only become effective by changing the way we think about communications. We help small and midsize companies and organisations do that.
From experience – including our own - we know that a good sense of humor can be of great help when you decide to take at hard look at how you communicate. Stepping up your communications is about skills and techniques, but more importantly it's about adjusting your mindset so you see and do things differently.
This can be a tricky exercise even for large organisations with specialised communications departments. But in small and mid-size organisations the challenge of stepping up your communications is often a much more personal one.
After all you will be communicating the results of your own work and you may have to prepare your communications yourself – including improving your writing skills, if necessary, and adapting your thought process.
Now, how humorous is that? you may ask. It can actually be quite a bit of fun – and sometimes quite an eye-opener as well.
This is especially true when you realise that creating effective communications is not just for hard-nosed professionals in news rooms and public relations agencies – with a little effort and guidance you can do it too and achieve remarkable impact.
So Who Is Jens Thomsen?
Jens is the owner and co-founder of Impact Brussels. He made the move into communications and public affairs after almost 15 years as a business journalist and EU correspondent. Jens is an experienced observer of European business life and politics. He has covered the financial sector, IT, services and industry and worked as an investigative journalist.
He also likes to talk and has been a frequent EU commentator on Danish national radio and television. You may think Jens talks all the time (a common bad habit among reporters). But he has learned that listening is by far the best way to get to know people and their businesses. So if you call him he will be interested in hearing about your business and your challenges.
As a former journalist Jens also knows only too well that very few people are borne effective communicators. Most of us must go through training, and while this may take a little effort, the effect can be truly captivating.
Change a word or two in a dull headline and all of a sudden you have an appealing message that attracts people to your newsletter or article. Even in today's world where we are all bombarded round the clock by digital media and glittery marketing a simple text message can still be very powerful.
So your words count, and you can count on them.
Before co-founding Impact Brussels, Jens was an EU correspondent for the Danish business daily Børsen in Brussels, and before that he worked as a business journalist for other Danish printed media such as Berlingske Tidende and Børsens Nyhedsmagasin. He has also written for the IT magazine Computerworld and as an EU correspondent for the Ritzau news agency. Jens graduated as a journalist from the Danish School of Journalism and has an MA from the University of Aarhus, majoring in Nordic languages and literature and minoring in business economics.
