Frequently Asked Questions
Here we answer some of the questions people ask about our services.
What do you mean by small and midsize organisations and companies?
Our approach to communications is very pragmatic and we look at organisations in terms of their resources not their size. An example: A European business association may represent hundreds of members and dozens of national member organisations, but the association's secretariat may only count between 5 and 20 employees.
Most of the manpower is used for gathering and processing information and for administration. In terms of communications resources this is a small organisation - and demand for communications is probably considerable. Quite often communications activities are taken care of by employees with other tasks to do. Communications is secondary to them and is often inconsistent and ineffective.
Even midsize companies sometimes allocate very limited resources for communications, so they struggle as well. Very small organisations, on the other hand, with only a handful of employees, are always small organisations when it comes to communications, but their communications needs may be significant.
Do you only work with small and midsize organisations?
Our services focus on the needs of small and midsize organisations. But large organisations also need employees who are able to communicate effectively, and we are happy to work with them when we see there is a fit.
Do you only work in Brussels?
Despite our name we serve clients across Europe and we are happy to work with you where ever you are.
No cure no pay?
When we do media relations consulting we are sometimes asked if we charge our clients in case they get no media coverage despite our best efforts. The answer is yes. We charge our clients for the work we do, and working with the media always involves the risk that you may not be successful every time you approach a journalist. You've probably experienced that yourself if you tried working with the media. What we help you do is to maximise the probability that the media will cover your story. We do this by preparing and timing your story as best as possible, and this is the service you pay for.
What's your working language?
We work in English (or Danish), but we understand French, German, Swedish or Norwegian and can help you create effective communications in your own mother tongue.
What has communications got to do with public affairs?
Quite a bit, actually. In most cases your public affairs effort will only be as effective as your communications skills, especially your writing ability. Overly-technical or ill-prepared written presentations will seriously weaken your performance as a public affairs specialist.
